Curious about cocktails: how to mix them, how to drink them, their history, or perhaps strategies for having a functional and well-stocked home bar without breaking the bank? Look no further than Evoe! Named for the rallying cry of the bacchanals of ancient Rome, Evoe is a “cocktail society” with the goal of sharing knowledge and imbibing in an intimate setting, as a casual alternative to the serious/snooty New York cocktail bar scene.
Hosted by Nora Sherman (of the Great American Cooking Project) and Mayur Subbarao (who, in his spare time, can be found behind the bar—and behind the cocktail menus of—Dram, Mayahuel, and the upcoming LES bar Painkiller), the events are held in charmingly oddball locations around New York City.
Evoe’s official debut (pictured above) was a delightful gathering centered around 1920 Parisian cocktails, held in the basement of manhattan prop house and sculpture/prototype studio The Compleat Sculptor.
